Message for the New Year 2026

By Dr. Nurmazilah Mahzan
Chairperson, Council of Advisors, TYMBA Education Group

“Assalamualaikum

As we stand at the threshold of 2026, let us reflect, recalibrate, and prepare to chart a better year ahead.

Reflecting on 2025: A Year of Geoeconomic Calibration

The past year was a period of “tenuous resilience” for the global economy. While we faced rising costs amidst US tariff uncertainties, we also saw a significant pivot toward a digital-first, sustainable economy. For the accountancy profession, 2025 brought exciting developments that opened doors to various opportunities. Alhamdulillah, we witnessed the mainstreaming of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting and the initial ripples of Generative AI in audit and taxation. You have not just been studying numbers; you have been observing a historic shift in how value is measured and protected in a volatile world.

2026: Opportunities Amidst Transformation

Looking ahead to 2026, the landscape is one of “Transformation over Reform.” We are entering the first year of the 13th Malaysia Plan, We are entering the first year of the 13th Malaysia Plan, which focuses on high-value sectors like semiconductors, AI, and renewable energy. For accountancy students, this translates into three major frontiers:

The Green Economy: With the introduction of Malaysia’s Carbon Tax in 2026, “Carbon Accounting” is no longer a niche, it is a core competency. You are the pioneers who will help businesses navigate this new fiscal reality.

Digital Trust & E-Invoicing: As e-invoicing becomes the standard for even small-scale enterprises, the role of the accountant shifts from a “recorder of history” to a “strategic technologist.”

Fiscal Resilience: While global growth is projected to remain steady at approximately 3.1%, market volatility remains. This creates a high demand for professionals who can offer sound financial stewardship and ethical governance.

Your 2026 Action Plan: Beyond the Classroom

To our existing students, I urge you to look beyond your textbooks. To our prospective students, I invite you to join a profession that serves as the “conscience” of the business world. Here is your roadmap for 2026:

  • Upskill in Sustainability: Do not wait for a formal module. Start familiarizing yourselves with the IFRS S1 and S2 standards. The market is hungry for “Sustainability Accountants.”
  • Embrace AI as a Partner: Do not fear automation; master it. Use this year to learn how data analytics and AI can enhance your professional judgment rather than replace it.
  • Cultivate Ethical Fortitude: In an era of deepfakes and complex financial structures, your greatest asset is your integrity. Build a reputation for ethics that is as strong as your technical skills.
  • Be Global, Act Local: Keep an eye on the US Federal Reserve and global trade shifts, but remain deeply rooted in the needs of the Malaysian “rakyat” and our local business ecosystem.

The year 2026 will not be without its challenges, but for those who are prepared, it will be a year of unprecedented growth. Let us step into this new chapter with the courage to innovate and the wisdom to lead. Stay true to our purpose and our duties as vicegerents on earth.

Happy New Year 2026!”

Growing With Purpose. Scaling With Values. Preparing for the Future

By Airil Razali (ARI)
Chief Executive Officer, TYMBA Education Group

“Assalamualaikum and Hi TYMBA Community,

“Masa menguji kita, tetapi nilai menentukan siapa kita.”

As we step into 2026, I do so with a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility. First and foremost, thank you to our students, educators, partners, sponsors and stakeholders who continue to believe in TYMBA. To Yayasan Peneraju, MyPAC, PTPTN, our university partners, industry collaborators and everyone within the wider ecosystem that supports our work, this journey is shared. TYMBA exists because of trust and that trust is something we never take lightly.

As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on how far we have come together. 2025 was not merely a year of expansion; it was a year of learning, recalibration and organisational maturity. We scaled carefully,

strengthened our teams intentionally and ensured that quality never slipped as we grew. Across the organisation, we saw greater clarity, stronger ownership and a deeper sense of collective purpose taking root.

Alhamdulillah, TYMBA maintained its ACCA Platinum status for the third consecutive year, after becoming the fastest institution globally to be recognised. We continued to stand among the world’s largest MICPA x CA ANZ providers, with an average pass rate of 80%.

Our professional ecosystem expanded further when we became a CFA Institute programme provider with UWorld and a CIMA provider with Kaplan.

At a regional level, we strengthened our ASEAN presence by joining the ASEAN Accounting Educators Workgroup, reinforcing collaboration, knowledge exchange and shared standards across borders.

One milestone that truly reflects our purpose was the launch of the first ASEAN ICAEW Eminence Scholarship, beginning with outstanding talents from Universiti Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia. This initiative represents nation building in action; opening doors early, nurturing excellence and shaping professionals who will serve with competence, integrity and values. It is a reminder that sustainable progress begins with deliberate investment in people.

With the close of 2025, we officially concluded our first five-year cycle. That chapter was about laying foundations; building systems, credibility, people and trust. The next five years will be about scaling with meaning. In 2026, TYMBA will continue to strengthen its physical and digital ecosystem through carefully chosen strategic partnerships that support long-term sustainability, institutional resilience and community impact. Growth, for us, must be responsible, enduring and aligned with the broader needs of society.

Sustainability will therefore become a guiding principle as we move forward — not only environmental sustainability, but also sustainability of talent, institutions and the profession itself. Education must equip individuals not just to succeed today, but to remain relevant, ethical and resilient for decades to come.

At the same time, we are accelerating our move into EduTech to make education more accessible, scalable and truly borderless. Beginning in 2026, AI readiness will become a core pillar of TYMBA’s mission. The future accountant, analyst and finance leader will not compete against artificial intelligence, but will work alongside it. Our focus is on embedding AI literacy into our programmes, training students to interpret data, exercise sound judgement and uphold ethics in an AI-augmented environment.

Regionally, TYMBA will further strengthen ASEAN collaboration through initiatives such as an ASEAN Summer Camp, designed to bring together high-potential students and educators from across the region. This platform will encourage cross-cultural learning, professional exposure and early leadership development, reinforcing our belief that ASEAN integration begins with people, not policies alone.

At the heart of our long-term commitment to the accounting fraternity is capacity building. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and ACCA, TYMBA is committed to the upskilling of 1,000 teachers and lecturers across Malaysia. Strengthening educators is how we strengthen the entire ecosystem.

Empowering the Chartered Accountant community remains central to what we do, aligned with the national aspiration of producing 60,000 Chartered Accountants, with a strong emphasis on Bumiputera participation as part of inclusive nation building.

At our core, TYMBA will remain agile but principled, ambitious yet grounded, innovative while anchored in values. As we enter our next five years, our promise is clear: progress with purpose, growth with values, sustainability in action and a future where opportunity is shared and responsibility is upheld.

Onward — together.”
